A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after March of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet rescued four early opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
