Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
